Rebecca Brumbaugh Levering of Conneaut, Ohio passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024 at the age of 82. She was born March 6, 1942 in Greenville, Ohio to Dorothy Ruth Holcombe and Eral Dean Brumbaugh.
Rebecca graduated from Blanchester High School, Miami University of Ohio with a B.A. in piano performance, attended Boston University School of Theology and received her Masters of Music Education from Youngstown State University.
Rebecca shared her love of music and God in many ways throughout her career. She was an Elementary Music teacher in Amherst, Ohio and with Buckeye Local Schools in Ashtabula, Ohio. Rebecca also carried on the Brumbaugh tradition of being a private piano teacher, church organist, bell choir director and choir director. As a pastor’s wife, she helped serve several Massachusetts and Ohio congregations by ministering through music. With the sharing of her love for music, Rebecca impacted and inspired several generations. She was an active member of New Leaf United Methodist Church, as well as PEO, OES and the Western Reserve Emmaus Community.
She was an independent, adventurous soul who was determined to live her life to the fullest. Rebecca loved to travel and learn about other places and cultures. Every year her calendar was full with trips to other countries and states, cruises, an annual “sister trip” to hunt waterfalls with her sister Marilyn, and a yearly car trek to Florida with multiple stops for family and friends on the way up and down. If there was a concert, play or museum with an exhibit, she was there, usually with a group of friends. In her “spare” time, Rebecca practiced yoga, loved reading, sewing and watching Lake Erie sunsets. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, grand dogs and great-grand dogs.
Rebecca is survived by her two children Beth (Joe) Slattery and Steve (Stephanie) Levering, granddaughter Crystal (Gary) Rardon, granddaughter Amber (Arlo) Wiley, granddaughter Delainey Yoder, four great-grandchildren Kaylee and Tristan Rardon, Annie and Alex Wiley, sister Marilyn (David) Myers, brother Harry (Judy) Brumbaugh, several nieces and nephews, two grand cats and eleven grand and great-grand dogs.
She is preceded in death by her parents and former husband, Merlen Levering.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 10, 2024 at New Leaf United Methodist Church, 110 Gateway Ave. Conneaut. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 PM.
Contributions may be made in Rebecca’s memory to the music fund of New Leaf United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the service and the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
