Richard L. “Dick” Burdick, 95, of Conneaut, passed away Wednesday September 28, 2022 at Hospice House in Cleveland. He was born June 12, 1927 in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Kenneth and Leona (Webster) Burdick.
Richard served in the US Navy.
He worked for Nickel Plate railroad then Reactive Metals as a foreman, the Conneaut Dock Company, and the Bessemer railroad when he started Burdick Plumbing & Heating in 1970. Dick was a hardworking man, always providing for his family.
Richard and his wife belonged to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Loyal Order of the Moose Conneaut #472, American Legion Cowle Post #151 and the Conneaut Elks #256.
Dick was an avid bowler, starting out as a pin setter at a very young age and bowled until he was 90. He celebrated 50 years of going to the ABC tournaments, where he was recognized by the bowling congress for that achievement with his family by his side. He also golfed until he was 90. Dick played fast pitch and slow pitch softball over the years. He loved all the grandkids and great grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years. Ruth (Ashby); children, Duane (Chery Brunell) Burdick, Sr., Linda (Robert) Wires, Nancy Herb and Patricia Jackson all of Conneaut, and Mary Jane Crandall of West Palm Beach, Fl; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 son in law, William “Bill” Herb, Dale Crandall, and Michael Jackson; sister, Shirley Gerren and a brother, Robert Burdick.
Funeral service will take place 11:00 AM Tuesday October 4, 2022 with Pastor Joyce Shellhammer officiating at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, where family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday October 3, 2022 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Cowle Post #151.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
