Richard L. Hill

Richard L. Hill, 85, of North Kingsville, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at UH Conneaut Medical Center. He was born January 23, 1937, in Conneaut, the son of Raymond and Helga (Ahlberg) Hill.

Richard graduated from Rowe in 1955 where he played basketball and baseball. After high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force. Richard also played basketball for the United States Airforce. After his honorable discharge, he worked for P & C Dock Company until his retirement February 1, 1999.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and past president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Local Union. Richard played American Legion baseball in 1954 and was inducted into the Ashtabula County Basketball Hall of Fame. He loved to golf and was an instructor for youth for a time at Village Green. He always played golf in the Finn Open with his cousins. He was an avid sports fan especially the Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Indians.

He enjoyed washing and waxing the car, taking care of lawn work and antiquing. He was an avid collector of tins, which he  enjoyed showing his family, friends and grandchildren his new tins along with the stories of how and where they were purchased.   A longtime tradition started by his father, anytime a grandchild would visit, he would give them a dollar.

Richard valued his friends and their friendships; he loved to help others and take care of family. Family and friends meant everything to him.

Survivors include his wife Carol (Dixon) Hill, whom he married February 16, 1991; his sons Steven Hill and Paul Hill, both of Ashtabula; his daughters Shannon (Vincent) Mucci of Roaming Shores, Michelle Halman of Ashtabula, Robin (Kevin Rulkowski) Hall of Berkley, MI, Cynthia Dewey of Erie, Paula (Loren) Snyder of Roaming Shores, and Tracy (Joe) Cole of Ashtabula; fourteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his brother Jerry (Jackie) Hill of Ashtabula.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Celebration of life will be 3:00 P.M., Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St, Conneaut with Andrew Chiodo, Chaplain of the American Legion officiating. The American Legion Cowle Post #151 will provide Military Honors following the service.
