Richard Johnston Obituary

Richard L. Johnston, 84, of Conneaut, passed away Thursday morning, February 4, 2021 at his home. He was born October 15, 1936 in Conneaut, the son of John and Lillian (Teppo) Johnston.

Richard graduated from Conneaut High School and worked as Superintendent for the Water Plant for the City of Conneaut retiring in 1989. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the American Legion Cowle Post #151, the Conneaut Moose Lodge, and was one of the very first members of the Ashtabula chapter of the Ohio Horseman’s Council. He had a true love for horses and enjoyed camping and trail riding in the mountains with his horses, family and OHC friends.

He enjoyed fishing, going to auctions, in his early years hunting and trapping. He was involved with clean ups at Indian trails in the Ashtabula Gulf with the OHC which was of his favorite local riding places.

Survivors include the love of his life, his companion of twenty years Pearl Ann Curtis, his daughters Renae Tisdale of Clarksville, AK, Beth (Thomas) Stevens of Conneaut, Laura Gutierres of Conneaut, Kathy (Michael) Mills of Conneaut, and Julie Curtis-Sanford of Conneaut; his sons Tim (Candy) Johnston of Conneaut, and Daniel Curtis of Maryville, TN; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and special care-taker Brittany Hall.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Keith R. Johnston; and his daughter Jennifer Brown.

The family would like to Thank Jess, Shelly, Heidi, and Sadie with Bella Care Hospice for their special care.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to the Abiding Memorial Fund of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 876 Grove St., Conneaut, OH 44030. Envelopes will be available at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut which is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
