Roger A. Arkelin, 93, of North Kingsville, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Kingsville, OH. He was born January 6, 1930 in Detroit, MI, the son of George and Alice (Sippola) Arkelin.
Roger enlisted in the United State Air Force serving in England. After his honorable discharge, he worked for P&C Dock Company.
Roger was raised Lutheran and was 63-year member of the Fraternal Order of Free Masons Rising Sun Lodge 22. He enjoyed golfing and was co-founder of the Harbor Hackers. He also enjoyed bowling in different leagues, boating, touring with Ann on their Honda Gold Wing, painting, and photography. Roger was self-taught on many instruments, including guitar and accordion, and he even had his own band “Polka Disks.”
Survivors include his wife Ann (Fleischer) Arkelin, whom he married July 25, 1953; his sister Phyllis Waid; brother Duffy (Nancy) Guthrie, both of Conneaut; nieces Kim (John Brewer) Esposito of Conneaut, Robin (Stephen Thompson) Taylor of La Mesa, CA, Linda (Gary) Porcello of Ashtabula, and Tracy (Mike) Murzynski of St. Roberts, MO; nephews Keith (Angela) Waid of Schertz, TX, Danny Arkkelin of Valparaiso, IN, Scott (Kimberly) Wickert of Medina, OH, Todd (Karen) Guthrie of Atwater, CA, and Tim (Janice) Guthrie of Ashtabula. Also surviving are several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harold Arkelin and Wallace Arkkelin; and his sister Estelle Wilson.
Calling hour will be Monday, October 30, 2023 from 11:00 AM until Noon at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. Masonic service will be 12 Noon at the funeral home conducted by the Rising Sun Lodge 22.
Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville with military honors conducted by the American Legion Cowle Post #151.
