Rolande "Elaine" H. (Pouchin) Foster

Rolande H. “Elaine” Foster, 97 of Conneaut, OH passed away peacefully at Geauga Medical Center on March 21, 2025. She was born August 7, 1927 to Gaston and Albertine (Geroul) Pouchin in Le Harve, France.

Elaine grew up during a difficult time in France having to hear bombs go off and helping to care for abandoned farms for families who had fled to safety. She came to America by boat and arrived in New York at the age of eighteen. When she arrived, she would frequently attend the movies and listen carefully to teach herself English.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and American Legion #151 Women’s Auxiliary.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers, feeding birds, sipping champagne with friends and family, afternoon happy hour time, lending a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance, but most of all her greatest love was her family, attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s school and sporting events, celebrating birthdays and just being together. She was known to all as Grandma Foster.

She is survived by her two sons Robert “Bob” (Billie) Sorenson of Westerville, OH and Thomas “Tom” (Kathy) Sorenson of Conneaut, OH; a sister Raymonde of France: five grandchildren Chelsea (Pat) Hakola of Painesville, OH, Sonja Sorenson and Brett Sorenson both of Conneaut, OH, Mandy (Brett) Hamilton of Westerville, OH and Robyn (Dave Kazz) of Phoenix, AZ; Seven great  grandchildren Courtney, Cole, Tyler, Olivia, Collin, Callie and Alexis and one great- great granddaughter Aurora.

Preceding her in death was her first husband Newell Sorenson, second husband who was the love of her life James Foster whom she married December 23, 1959, four sisters and three brothers who had lived in France.

Funeral Ceremony will be 12:30 PM, Tuesday March 25, 2025 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens 3140 E. Center St., North Kingsville, OH 44030 in the Mausoleum with Deacon Nicholas Iarocci officiating.

Memorial Contributions can be made in her memory to American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the service.

Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH has been entrusted with her arrangements.
