Ronald G. “Bud” Maenpaa, 90, of Conneaut, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025. He was born June 5, 1935 in Conneaut, OH, the son of Lauri “Chief” and Juliana (Kontas) Maenpaa.
Bud was a proud Navy Veteran serving from 1954 to 1958 as a Machinist Mate 1st Class. He attended Kent State University Ashtabula, and Machinist Mate School, Great Lakes Training Center, Great Lakes, IL. He worked for Conneaut Rubber and Plastics Co, Conneaut Leather, Emco-Wheaton as a CNC Operator, Copes-Vulcan as a Pipe Shop and Engine Lathe Operator, Rockwell International Brake Plant as a production inspector for 22 years until the plant closed in 1997 and then went on to work at Technology Integration Products.
Bud most recently worked for Marcy Funeral Home as their maintenance man/jack of all trades for over 32 years. You would often see him out in the parking lot working funerals or in the triangle planting the beautiful flowers. He was a dedicated and loving employee.
Bud was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served on church council, usher, and the property committee. He enjoyed football, baseball, softball, bowling, gardening, and fishing and was an avid Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He was a charter member of the Conneaut over 40 softball league, member of the Monroe A.C. baseball team, played fast pitch softball, Conneaut men’s slow pitch, American Legion baseball, and played basketball while in high school. For many years, you would see Bud at the side lines of the Conneaut High School football games working the chain gang, even long after his boys graduated high school.
Bud loved his family and was a supportive father and grandfather.
Survivors include his loving wife Janet N, (Harlacher) Maenpaa whom he married May 25, 1957; his sons Steve (Alicia) Maenpaa of Conneaut, Bruce (Amada) Maenpaa of Orangevale, CA, Keith Maenpaa of Conneaut, and Randy (JJ) Maenpaa of Conneaut; grandchildren Samantha, Nathan, Cody, Sierra, Garrett, and Gunnar; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Karina Hawker; and maternal grandparents John and Sanna Kontas, and paternal grandparents Jacob and Sophia Maenpaa.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 24, 2025 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Pastor Joshua Krenz officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM, Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the funeral home.
