Rosemary K. (Kananen) Bennett

Rosemary K. Bennett, 87 of Conneaut, OH, died September 29, 2023 at University Hospital Geauga Campus. She was born August 7, 1936, to John and Ruth (Williams) Kananen in Claridon, OH.

Rosemary graduated from Pierpont High School and had worked at various places over the years, including Icelies Creamery, JC Penny’s, Amboy Preschool, WREO radio, and the former News Herald.

She was an active member of Amboy United Methodist Church for many years where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was Treasurer for a time, and participated on numerous church boards.

Throughout the years, she was actively involved in 4-H as a Leader and Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts.

Her passion was art. She was a very accomplished artist winning many ribbons over the years, including a “Best of Show.” The Conneaut Art Center just exhibited a Retrospective of her art for the month of September.  She was a member of the Lakeshore Artists in Ashtabula. She loved to collect and repair antique dolls and made ceramic dolls as well and was one of the founding members of the Conneaut Doll Club as well as the current President. Rosemary was also a member of the Conneaut Historical Society.

Survivors include her husband, Delmas Bennett, whom she married sixty-eight years ago and loved to travel the world with; her daughters, Willa (George) Schrlau of Chagrin Falls, OH and Kate (Patrick) Casey of  Murfreesboro, TN; sons, Bruce (Susan) Bennett of Chardon, OH and Andy (Cindy) Bennett of Burke, VA.; grandchildren Gavin (Teresa) Bennett, Adam (Vanessa) Ewing, Ian (Keely) Bennett, Joshua Ewing, Evan Bennett, Anya (Jon) Hueing, Grant (Renee) Bennett, Courtney Childers, Katie Childers and Erin Bennett; and great grandchildren Joy, Andrew, Greg, Maxwell, Oliver and Cora.

Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents and brother John Kananen.

A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Amboy United Methodist Church, 550 W. Main Rd., Conneaut.

Visiting hour will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Contributions may be made in Rosemary’s memory to Amboy United Methodist Church of Conneaut Historical Society. Envelopes will be available at the service and at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH which has been entrusted with arrangements.
