Russell E. Marcy, 101, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2022, surrounded by family at his grandson’s home in Brunswick, Ohio. Eager to be home with his wife, Barbara, he slipped out 11 days before his 102nd birthday. Born on December 5, 1920, in Albion, PA., he was a son of the late Harry and Edna (Orford) Marcy. Russell graduated from Springfield High School in 1938. Immediately following, he sailed the Great Lakes for two years on the Monroe C. Smith.
Captain R. Marcy enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. from 1943 until 1947, serving in WWII as a B-24 Liberator pilot. He was stationed at San Pancrazio Airfield in Italy; piloting 27 bombing missions over Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he opened a trucking company, Marcy Trucking. He retired in 1987 in order to spend more time with his wife Barbara and grandson Jimmy, whom he raised.
He enjoyed square dancing, polkas, hunting, fishing, and spending time with great-grandchildren Andrew and Anna. From a young age, Russell and Jimmy shared a special bond, enjoying splitting wood, going to Cleveland Indians games, hunting, fishing, and making maple syrup.
He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his daughter Susan Marcy (Fiancé James Darling), grandson Jim (Sue) Marcy, great-grandchildren, Andrew (Lindsay) and Anna Marcy, Maria, Danny, and Joey Ambrose, and Brady Sager. Russell was cared for and loved by many in his older years including nieces and nephews who took time to visit and cook for him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Barbara (Liocano), daughter, Vivian; siblings, Maxine Trout, Richard, and twin brothers Lloyd and Floyd Marcy.
Callings hours will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2022, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio.
Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield, Pa., with military honors conducted by Conneaut American Legion Cowle Post #151.
