Sandra L. (Askew) Tessmer

Sandra L. Tessmer, 86, of Conneaut, passed away peacefully at home on August 21, 2024. She was born on May 23, 1938 in Ashtabula to Herbert and Laura (Hewitt) Askew.

After graduating high school, Sandy attended College of the Desert and California State of San Bernardino, CA, and obtained her bachelor’s degree in education. She taught in California before returning to Conneaut Area City School district where she worked as a bus driver, custodian and a teacher until retiring in 2001. A woman of faith, she was a member of New Leaf United Methodist Church. In her pass time, she belonged to the Women of the Moose, Eastern Star and CEA, enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Sandy is survived by her children Renae Tisdale of Clarksville, AK, Laura (Tom) Hale of Conneaut, Timothy (Candy) Johnston of Conneaut; stepchildren James Tessmer and Pam (Ron) Butts of Conneaut and Michelle (Brian) Powell of Wilmington, NC; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren,1 great-great-grandchild; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog Max.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Tessmer, son Keith Johnston, infant daughter Mary Margaret; daughter Jennifer Brown; granddaughter Sandra DeLaet; great grandson Canden Johnston; brothers Paul and Duane Irish; sisters Donna Best and Pat Boyce.

Funeral service will be 12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with Pastor Jan Walsh Officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, North Kingsville. A potluck meal will follow the graveside service at New Leaf United Methodist Church, everyone is asked to bring a dish to share.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM.
