Steven A. Kahler, 63, of Conneaut, born June 16, 1957 the first son to Robert W. and Betty R. (Boggs) Kahler, passed away November 25, 2020 with his brother by his side at UH Geauga Hospital after a short battle with a very aggressive cancer.
Steven was a 1975 graduate of Conneaut High School and the Ashtabula County J.V. S. (masonry trades.) After completing his education, Steven, in keeping with family tradition, joined the United States Navy. He proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Coronado (AFG 11) and the U.S.S. La Salle (AFG 3.) Steven was very proud of his service and rightly so, having served most of his enlistment on the Coronado patrolling the Prussian Gulf during the very tenuous times of the Iranian Hostage crisis, after which he returned home to the states aboard the U.S.S. La Salle.
After being honorably discharged, Steven returned to Conneaut and began his 39 year career with what is now CSP Conneaut as a press operator. He was a dedicated employee, taking pride in his work.
Steven enjoyed reading, as a pre-teen youth while recovering from a lengthy illness, he read three complete series of encyclopedias, and he had a vast knowledge about many subjects and would have been a great contestant on Jeopardy. He was known for his sense of humor and quick wit.
Steven was an outdoorsman and a member of the Ashtabula Rod and Gun Club. He also enjoyed traveling, reading, fishing, music, shooting pool, football, and was a lifelong, loyal Browns fan. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his mother Betty Kahler; his brother Donald Kahler; uncle Frank Kahler; aunt Francis (Boggs) Metcalf; his step-daughter Lisa Hillyer; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Kahler; his grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Graveside service will be held 1:00 P.M., Friday, December 4, 2020 at Springfield Cemetery, Rt. 215, East Springfield, PA, with military honors being conducted by the American Legion Cowle Post #151.
In lieu of flowers, Contributions may be made in Steven’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8517.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be announced by the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
