Timothy Wayne Cole, 63, of Conneaut, crossed the finish line Friday, February 13, 2026, after an apparent heart attack. He was born March 24, 1962, the second — and, he claimed, the best-looking — of Frank Jr. and Patti Cole’s four children.
He was transport QB at University Hospitals-Beachwood, and a tax preparer and instructor for H&R Block in Saybrook.
His true passion was racing. When medical conditions prevented him from continuing to drive his No. 49 stock car, he teamed up with driver William Pinckney to keep building and running cars under the Tim Cole Racing brand. Tim’s happy place was working on cars and trading humorous insults with the other crews — and anyone else in the vicinity — in the pits at Raceway 7, Stateline, Eriez and Marion Center racetracks.
Like his father, Tim also was bitten by the auction sales bug, and frequently was seen at Valentines Auctions, Heaven’s Auctions and Dempsey Auction buying old toys, books, sports memorabilia and whatever else struck his fancy.
Tim often quipped that he could afford either a wife or a racecar, but not both. But his family knew that he would have loved to have been married — he came close a couple of times — and have a passel of kids of his own. He always made sure that his young nieces and nephews were taken care of at Christmas.
He was a 1980 graduate of Conneaut High School, where he played tuba in the band. He had several college degrees, including from Kent State University, where he competed in tennis for the Ashtabula Campus team, and The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute. He attended Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his mother of Conneaut; his siblings, Burton Cole of Falmouth, Kentucky, Daniel (Mary Jane) Cole of Monroe Township and Martha (Randy) Fertig of Conneaut; his racing family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Tim was preceded in death by his father; sister-in-law, Terry Cole; nephew, Joshua Cole; niece, Victoria Schlaich; and numerous other relatives.
Services will be 12:00 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2026 at East Conneaut Wesleyan Methodist Church, 315 E. Main Rd. Conneaut, OH 44030, with his “other brother,” the Rev. Michael Nevseta officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until the time of the service at noon at the church.
Contributions may be made to Tim’s family, envelopes will be available at the church and also at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.
